There are two production process for welding wear resistant composite overlay plate, open or submerged arc welding. Generally, dilution rate refers to two aspects: one is the dilution happens when wire or steel strip gets into the powder of high carbon ferrochrome, another dilution found in the joint area of backing plate and wear resistant layer caused by electric arc heating.

Open arc welding has a low dilution rate, about 3mm, but too much welding spatter and has rough surface, density is not ideal. Submerged arc welding has a high dilution rate, about 4mm, but there was no welding spatter and has smooth surface, density is good.
