chemical composition has decisive impact on VAUTID chromium carbide wear plate quality

Summary:Wear resistance can not be judged by macro hardness, as it may not consistent with the wear resistance in many cases, chemical composition and production process are of decisive significance for product quality.

There is a famous saying in the field of metallurgy, the chemical composition and production process equals quality. Why we highlight this sentence, but not macro hardness of products ? That is because there is a common misunderstanding of higher hardness, higher wear resistance.

According to chemical composition, we divided the wear resistant chromium carbide overlay plate into low carbon, low chromium (carbon 2-3, chromium 10-20) , medium carbon, medium chromium (carbon 3-4, chromium 20-30) and high carbon, high chrome (carbon 4-5, chromium 30-40). Compared with chromium carbide wear resistant composite plate, hot rolled plate is more compact and smooth, macro hardness is low, which can reflect the wear resistance performance. But wear resistance ability of hot rolled plate is poor than overlay plate as it does not have chromium carbide hard particles in the substrate even they share same hardness HB500, VAUTID overlay plate can work several times better than hot rolled plate under same working conditions without impact force.

The chemical composition of the chromium carbide is different for manufacturers, it makes small difference in macro hardness, but micro hardness of the chromium carbide M7C3 hard particles differs greatly. Wear resistance can not be judged by macro hardness, as it may not consistent with the wear resistance in many cases, chemical composition and production process are of decisive significance for product quality.
