If the welding metal has the austenite and bainite micro structure, the wear resistance of the metal is better than the one with the micro-structure of pearlite and martensite. In other words, the low hardness of austenite and bainite micro-structure can be have better wear resistance than the high hardness of pearlite and martensite.

In the process of abrasive wear, the wear rate is directly related to the friction, and commonly, the greater the friction, the higher the wear rate. The friction is composed of sliding friction force , plastic deformation force and crack propagation force. It is able to improve the metal wear resistance ability (one of them) if we can improve the metal resistance and not reduce its ability to resist the other two forces. From the theoretical analysis, materials share the similar hardness have different wear resistance because they have individual matrix organization, also the ability to resist three kinds of different forces.
