what influence do chemical composition of slag have on cement quality

Steel plants differ greatly in chemical composition of slag, slag discharge also not the same in different period just in same steel plant. We must test change of the chemical composition when we use slag, oxides in slag have influence on cement quality as follows:
1.Calcium oxide, it is alkaline oxide, is about 40 percent of slag and is major component of it.  Calcium oxide is the main factor to decide the activity of slag, therefore, its higher content, the greater slag activity.
2.Aluminum oxide is acidic oxide, also active components in slag, 5% - 15% in general, sometimes as high as 30%. The higher content , much more active it is and more suitable for cement.
3.Silicon oxide, slightly acidic oxides, is about 30-40 percent of slag, there is more silicon oxide compared with the calcium oxide and aluminum oxide, resulting in the formation of low calcium minerals with a low activity, and even free silica, which decreased the activity of slag.
4.Magnesium Oxide, low activity than calcium oxide, is about 1-18 percent of slag, exist as stable compound or vitreous in slag, does not produce poor stability. Magnesium Oxide can increase the flow of molten minerals, helps to improve the quality, therefore, Magnesium Oxide works as the activity composition of slag.
5.Sulfur, large Sulfur will cause mass loss of cement strength, but will produce calcium hydroxide when it comes with water.
6.Titanium oxide, it will decrease slag activity, TiO2 content in slag should not exceed 10% as prescribed in national standard.
7.Ferric oxide and ferric oxide, iron oxide FeO content in slag is few in the normal smelting,and have little effect on the activity of slag.
