Submerged arc hardfacing is the traditional, efficient surfacing process, and has never departed. Self protection open arc welding has been developed in recent two years, actually the two welding methods both have their advantages and disadvantages. We always use submerged arc hardfacing for welding grinding roller, millstone in the early stage, then why we are using open arc welding? This is because  open arc welding has the following advantages compared with submerged arc surfacing:

1.Low production cost: Submerged arc hardfacing is a hard work and time-consuming, 3-4 workers are needed during the whole welding process. We need to dry the flux before welding, and keep adding the flux during work, also will order a special worker to remove welding slag, which requires a large investment in human, material resources.On the contrary, open arc welding only need one worker to operate the machine, automatic and high efficiency.
2.Good wear resistance: The work-piece will have a limited weld-ability because we can hardly get normal welding layer temperature due to the influence of submerged arc welding flux, welding slag. While the open arc welding is easier to realize the temperature control, so that the work-piece can obtain better wear resistance.
3.Deformation: The casting dimension deformation will be relatively large because submerged arc welding is limited to temperature control, but open arc welding is not easy to cause deformation.
