Manganese steel is a kind of high strength steel plate, can applied to adverse working conditions, like high impact, extrusion, material wear, etc. Major failure is wear and abrasive, partly fracture and deformation.

Manganese steel can be divided into four major categories: 16Mn steel, 45Mn steel, 50Mn steel, 65Mn steel plate. It will try to control carbon equivalent (CET) as much as possible in order to gain the better welding performance. Generally, preheating is needed when carbon equivalent is greater than 0.35%, especially for greater thickness steel plate.

The relationship between carbon equivalent, steel plate thickness and preheating temperature is shown in figure:

The table below is the carbon equivalent for different thickness of steel plate. For the same grade of a carbon equivalent, the carbon equivalent also get higher when the plate is thicker.

Commonly, the wear resistance performance of wear resistant steel plate from YaoYu has the following statistics:
(1) 5-10 times better than HARDOX
(2) 20-25 times better than low carbon steel
(3) 5-10 times better than stainless and high manganese steel
